The dramatic resignation of Home Secretary Amber Rudd MP late on Sunday evening has started a chain of events which involve James Brokenshire MP taking over as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The former Northern Ireland Secretary left government in 2017 for health reasons and is seen as a key ally of Theresa May. Brokenshire has experience of the of the private rented sector to call on from his time as Immigration Minister. He oversaw the rollout of Right to Rent checks, attending virtually every meeting of the monthly Landlords Consultative Panel of stakeholders.
